Welcome to the Tintenbar to Ewingsdale upgrade website. The NSW
Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) is continuing with planning to upgrade
the Pacific Highway from Tintenbar to Ewingsdale. The proposed upgrade would be
around 17km long. It would start at the northern end of the Ballina bypass at Ross
Lane and extend to the existing dual carriageway at Ewingsdale.
The Tintenbar to Ewingsdale environmental assessment and refined concept
design were on display for community comment until 31 October 2008.
The RTA has considered the submissions received in response to the environmental
assessment and has submitted a submissions report and preferred project report, including a
revised statement of commitments, to the NSW Department of Planning for further
assessment and consideration for approval by the NSW Minister for Planning.

To further reduce the environmental impacts of the proposed upgrade, two changes are proposed
to the concept design:
The refinements to the project include:
-
Removing the Ivy Lane interchange and developing a tourist route strategy to help
reduce the impact of the proposed upgrade on local businesses and villages between
Tintenbar and Ewingsdale.
This approach follows extensive community submissions on the issue as well as
further evaluations of the Ivy Lane interchange.
-
Building a landscape mound to help manage excess earthworks material between the existing
highway and Clover Hill at Bangalow, this will also provide further noise reduction
and act as a visual buffer between the upgraded highway and the Bangalow community.
This website provides information on the proposed design of the upgrade, its environmental
assessment and the main steps in the study process.
