In August 2008 the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) commenced preliminary investigations
into a southern bypass of Bangalow.
The preliminary investigation considered the costs and benefits of a potential southern
bypass of Bangalow in order to determine its feasibility. A discussion paper on the findings of the preliminary investigations was placed on public display from 3 June to 15 July 2009.
A decision on the need for and the justification of a southern bypass has been made following consideration of the results of the investigations and feedback from the community. The RTA has decided that a southern bypass of Bangalow is not justified in the medium to long term. The RTA will not proceed with any further investigations into a southern bypass of Bangalow at this time. However, should the performance or function of the State road network significantly change for unseen reasons, the RTA may reassess the need and justification for a southern bypass of Bangalow.
A decision report that provides further details can be found on the following page. The results of the preliminary investigations can also be found on this page.
